Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent 2013 AD…

Posted on Updated on

Today, Feb 13th is Ash Wednesday and the start of the Holy season of Lent according to the Roman Catholic calendar.

Our Byzantine friends started Lent on Monday, Feb 11th, the day after the last pre-Lenten Sunday on their calendar, Cheesefare.

Please make an extra effort for attending to the traditional practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving during Holy Lent. As well make sure to get to confession (to fulfill the once a year minimum exercise of this Sacrament) as well as going to Holy Communion at least once, in the state of grace, free of mortal sin, between today and Trinity Sunday, the Sunday after Pentacost. The latter is 50 days after Easter, which is 40 days away from today.

Do it. Don’t make excuses and don’t just “go along” with the crowd that poo-poos these practices. They increase your faith and fill your soul with the free merciful graces of Christ. They help bring a metanoia to your soul, a transformation, a change towards the light of Christ and eternal life, the end game of the short trip we have on this earth.

God bless and keep you all, may the Holy Ghost guide and enlighten you, may Mary, the Theotokos, the Ever Virgin, always protect yoi.
