Appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press with David Gregory, Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York said that the Catholic Church ideally would have backed Obamacare but for President Obama’s attempt to cram down violations of the First Amendment on Obamacare’s back. “We bishops have been really kind of in a tough place because we’re for universal, comprehensive, life-affirming healthcare,” Dolan said, emphasizing that church support for universal government healthcare dated back to 1919 in the United States. “So we’re not Johnny-come-latelies. We’ve been asking for reform in healthcare for a long time.”
Dolan added, however, that the Obamacare mandate which stifled the religious expression of Catholic businessowners had sunk Catholic support for Obamacare. “Where we started bristling and saying, ‘Uh-oh, first of all this isn’t comprehensive, because it’s excluding immigrant and it’s excluding the unborn baby,’ so we began to bristle at that.” He continued by saying that President Obama’s administration had asked the church members to “violate” the “dictates of our conscience.”
Dolan said, “we began to worry and draw back and say, ‘Mr. President, please, you’re really kind of pushing aside some of your greatest supporters here. We want to be with you, we want to be strong. And if you keep doing this, we’re not going to be able to be one of your cheerleaders.’”
Has Archbishop Dolan no shame, or knowledge of the 7th commandment? Just because governmentt is doing the stealing for some people, they still remain accomplices or wheel men for the crime…
Dolan seems to know nothing of the principle of subsidiarity and the authentic Magisterial social teaching of the Church. Here’s just one unchangeable teaching example that contradicts Dolan; there are countless others:
Pope Pius XI (1922-1939)
“120. If Socialism, like all errors, contains some truth (which, moreover, the Supreme Pontiffs have never denied), it is based nevertheless on a theory of human society peculiar to itself and irreconcilable with true Christianity. Religious socialism, Christian socialism, are contradictory terms; no one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist. ”
Quadragesimo Anno (15 May 1931)
There’s a good place for Dolan & Co. to start. Government theft of 1/6th of the economy with its brand of socialism and croney capitalism can never be a good thing, for the industry survival nor for patients, nor for healthcare providers. Only the Regime’s croney friends win.
And in the process essentially making pharmacists, nurses, doctors and ancillary health personnel the slave workers under the Regime’s diktat, forced at financial, professional and legal gunpoint to violate their consciences and the most sacred tenets of their sincerely held faith.
Maybe Donaln can consider that the next time he wants to yuck it up at a fancy dinner with the Kenyan kommie kiddie killer, the most abortoholic president in US history, who oversees and promotes the extermination of millions of babies annually, by surgery, chemicals and devices.
