Illinois Seeks to Remove 2,500 Children from Catholic Charities’ Care
CHICAGO, July 11, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ — Using the Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act as justification, the state’s Department of Children and Family Services has given notice that it will remove 2,500 foster children under the care of Illinois’ Catholic Charities and end the over 30-year foster care partnership between the Charities and the state. A copy of one of the notification letters is available here.
In response, the Charities have filed for an emergency restraining order in Sangamon County Circuit Court, as part of their suit to obtain a declaration that Illinois law protects their religious beliefs on not recruiting civil union and other unmarried couples as foster parents.
A hearing on the restraining order is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12 at 2:30 pm Central Time, before Judge John Schmidt. A copy of the emergency injunction and temporary restraining order is available here.

Federal Judge William H. Pauley Hears Historic New York City First Amendment Case
NEW YORK, June 15, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ — The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) and the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) have filed motions for a preliminary injunction blocking the implementation of the NYC Pregnancy Services Center Local Law 17 ( # 0-371a ) on behalf of Chris Slattery, Expectant Mother Care / EMC Frontline Pregnancy Care Centers and two other single site crisis pregnancy centers.
Oral arguments from the ACLJ and ADF will be heard in lower Manhattan at 2:30pm on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in the Federal Courthouse located at 500 Pearl Street in Court Room 11D. The plaintiff’s attorneys have both filed briefs in support of the injunction The City of New York has responded with a 43 page brief which conspicuously ignores the finding of facts from two related Federal lawsuits in Maryland.
Similar legislation was struck down in two separate decisions by United States Deborah Chasanow and United States Federal Judges Marvin Garbis. The courts ruled that the Government cannot, consistent with the First Amendment, require a “pro-life” pregnancy-related service center to post a sign that would essentially compel Government mandated speech.
“There’s a concerted effort on behalf of pro-abortion organizations to systematically target and punish crisis pregnancy centers in cities across America,” said CeCe Heil, senior counsel of the ACLJ. “The Baltimore ordinance was the first of its kind, and now other cities are following suit. We’re hopeful that these laws, including the one in New York City that we’re challenging in federal court, will ultimately be exposed for exactly what they do: violate the First Amendment rights of crisis pregnancy centers.”
The true motivation of the NYC council may be in question due to extensive research by the plaintiffs in the case.
Pro-Life activists have uncovered video evidence indicating that NYC Speaker Christine Quinn pushed this legislation in retaliation for Congressional Republicans attempt to de-fund Planned Parenthood.
“This legislation aims to deny access to free information, assistance, and ultrasounds to pregnant women in need,” stated EMC Frontline plaintiff Chris Slattery. “Our video crews captured Speaker Quinn and other members of the City Council expressing their true motivation for this outrageous, unconstitutional law. The real tragedy is that 41% of all pregnancies in NYC end with the death of an unborn child. This is very grave given that he is a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, the Pontifical Council for the Family and is a consultant to the Pro-Life Committee of the USCCB. SK Virgil Dechant (1977 to 2000 – when he received $2,164,805 on retirement!), and the K of C Board of Directors “refused to capitulate” to Pro-Life Catholics who criticized the Order for not expelling “pro-choice” politicians (Faith and Fraternalism, 1992, P 451). As a Past SK, Dechant is a lifetime Supreme Director. In Aug 2005, he told Ken Fisher, President of Concerned Roman Catholics of America (CRCOA), that Pro-Abortion pols will “never” be expelled. The Ohio assembly had hearings this week….no, not on the whining diehard leftist union members who think they can continue sucking at the state nipple as they have for decades….
This one was testimony on HB 125 affectionately known as the ‘Heartbeat Bill” whereby abortions will be banned if/when a preborn child’s heart can be detected, this is usually around 6.5 to 7 weeks of gestation. The abortionist “doctor” will have to show the visual evidence to the mom, like it or not, no fickle options given.
Sadly, as so often before, the NRTL affiliate–Ohio RTL–has come out AGAINST the bill, according to the Columbus Dispatch, stating it has no chance of being upheld in court. Huh? Is that our pro-life barometer for promting legislation and principles? EastSideHunky tried to confirm this lack of support. Got the usual, “give me a call at my convenience” email. This same group, like its national daddy, refuses to acknowledge that the contraceptive mentality leads to abortion, especially since any scientist worth their intellectual honesty fully knows that most “contraceptives” are just disguised chemical abortifacients.
One has to wonder why Catholic parishes continue to funnel donations to organizations at odds with Catholic teaching on this important matter to the family and society? Just like the Knights of Columbus, showering a number of their officers with salaries of $200-300,00/year coddling diehard pro-abortion members.

Holy Father: Fatima not Assisi!
We have a plea from Randy Engel–Traditional Catholic and pro-lifer extraordinaire–asking the Holy Father, Benedict XVI, to attend Fatima with the anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun this coming October, rather than re-visit the syncretist meeting of various and sundry pagan and non-Catholic religions at Assisi, repeating the scandal of 1986 by then-Pope John Paul II.
Certainly, for those who have examined the matter with an open heart and intellectually honest mind, the oft-requested Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by the Pope in unison with all the world’s bishops at the same time, has not been fulfilled, despite the many pleadings of God’s Holy Mother to do so. Weak churchmen, puffed with pride, think they know better than Christ’s Mother.

Please pay special attention to footnote #8 which states that in 1988, the Vatican ordered all Fatima Apostolates to claim that the 1984 Consecration fulfilled the request of Our Lady of Fatima. Fatima devotee Abbé Pierre Caillon writes, “An order came from Rome, obliging everyone to say and think: ‘The Consecration is done.’”
Please continue to pray that Benedict XVI will have a change of mind and heart and go to Fatima and not the Assisi Meeting in October 2011. And mark October 13, 2011, the 94th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, on your calendar as a day of prayer, penance and fasting should Benedict XVI make the egregious error of choosing Assisi and the Devil over Our Lord and Our Lady.

Fr Raymond Gravel is suing LSN for a bone-crushing, spiteful $500,000 which could easily shut down the Canadian-based news source which has defended the Church’s constant teachings on life, family and one of the 4 sins that cries to heaven for justice, sodomy. Gravel serves at the please of his local ordinary who seems to have no problem with his open hatred and hostility to the Church’s teachings on this matter, although he was suspended when he ran for parliament.
“Father” Gravel is suing for pain and suffering; isn’t that what faithful Catholics have to endure with his open rebellion against the authentic Church teachings against sodomy and baby killing?

Obamacare guts Healthcare Worker Rights of Conscience
Barrie Hussein (aka Obamacare) gutted the regulations Bush had put into place to protect conscientiously objecting health care professionals from discrimination in the workplace.
There were essentially no new provisions in Bush’s executive order, except to cause institutions to worry about receiving federal funds if they discriminated against health care professionals who refuse to kill humans in their practice, stemming from the various statues of the 1970s, the Weldon bill and others.
Barrie Hussein has returned the situation to its previous Clintonian state: toothless “conscience” legislation, unenforceable on a practical level because fired health care professionals usually lack funds to bring civil redress when incidents of discrimination occur, as they do with greater frequency. Also, what remains of “protection” will only apply to what is obviously recognized as abortion to a layman, and sterilization. The attempt to make mute the vast numbers of chemical abortions via various chemicals falsely labeled as “contraceptives” has been well documented for decades in many places.
Actually the situation is dramatically worse than it was previously, as the HHS has utterly no interest in hearing or cataloging incidents of discrimination when it comes to matters of rights of conscience of, say, pharmacists. The head of this department, Kathleen Sebelius–daughter of liberal pro-abortion former Gov John Gilligan of Ohio–has no interest in enforcing medical standards applicable to abortion mills in her (now) home state of Kansas when she was governor there. She attended more than one fundraiser by the infamous–and now dead–3rd trimester abortionist, George “The Killer” Tiller.
It is fortunate that the new wave of pro-life/pro-family/Tax Party Congress has shown some interest in this situation, otherwise it might be missed entirely by the public.
The actual repeal is government mumbo-jumbo gibberish, unless one has intimate familiarity with the underlying laws and regulations. The Heritage Foundation has pretty much put it in English.
The Sebelius HHS will effectively leave conscientiously objecting health care professionals essentially without protections. Be prepared to find new jobs or careers should a conflict between the employers mandates and personal conscience ever arise. Meanwhile, patients will be left holding the proverbial bag with the residual lower quality health care workers whose conscience cannot or won’t be pricked.

His witness led to the eventual and complete elimination of Arianism.
He instructed his followers to bury his body in an unmarked, secret grave, lest his body become an object of veneration. The monastic rules of Saint Anthony, the “patriarch” of monastic life, have served as the basis for countless monasteries.

Indifferentism Abounds during Unity Octave
Religious Indifferentism Condemned
“And this is the lethal system of religious indifferentism, which is repudiated by the light of natural reason itself.”

The entire ecumenical program, as exemplified by the new Week of Prayer is a severe rupture with the past, not continuity. It is a manifestation of the religious indifferentism condemned consistently by the Popes all through history.
The Popes throughout the centuries, and especially since the time of the French Revolution, condemned any activity that places the Catholic Church on equal footing with false religions. Here we will recount the teaching of four consecutive popes against religious indifferentism – a series of magisterial statements that reflect true continuity with perennial Catholic teaching. We will quote solemn pronouncements from Popes Leo XII, Pius VIII, Gregory XVI and Blessed Pius IX. Sadly, these are statements we never hear from post-Conciliar Vatican leaders.
Religious indifferentism is one of the many reasons for the Papal condemnations of Freemasonry, since Masonry places all religions on the same plain. Pope Leo XII taught in his inaugural Encyclical, Ubi Primum:
“A certain sect, certainly known to you, [Freemasonry] and wrongfully arrogating the name of philosophy for itself has stirred up from the ashes the disorganized collections of almost all the errors. … it teaches that ample liberty has been granted by God to every man to join any sect or to adopt any opinion which may be pleasing to him according to his own private judgment, without any danger to his salvation … it would be really impossible for the completely truthful God, who is Sovereign Truth itself, the best and most wise Provider, and Rewarder of the good, to approve of all sects that are teaching dogmas that are false and frequently opposed and contradictory to one another and to bestow eternal rewards upon the men who join these sects …”[16]
Pope Pius VIII forcefully condemned this error in the encyclical Traditi humilati nostrae:
“And this is the lethal system of religious indifferentism, which is repudiated by the light of natural reason itself. In this light we are warned that, among many religions which disagree with one another, when one is true, that there can be no association with light and darkness. Against these repeaters of ancient errors, the people must be assured, Venerable Brethren, that the profession of the Catholic Faith is alone the true one, since the Apostle tells us that there is one Lord and one baptism. As Jerome says, the man who eats the Lamb outside of this house is profane, and the man who is not in the ark of Noah is going to perish in the deluge. Neither is there any other name apart from the Name of Jesus given to men by which we must be saved. He who believes will be saved, and he who shall not have believed will be condemned.”[17]
Yet the “lethal system” of religious indifferentism condemned by the Popes — that a man may find salvation in any religion — effectively receives the stamp of approval by today’s practice of ecumenism and by the new pan-religious Week of Prayer for Christian Unity held at Rome’s St. Paul Outside the Walls.
Pope Gregory XVI likewise condemned this error in his Mirari vos arbitramur:
“Now we come to another very fertile cause of the evils by which, we are sorry to see, the contemporary Church being afflicted. This is indifferentism, or that wicked opinion which has grown up on all sides through the deceit of evil men. According to this opinion, the eternal salvation of the soul can be attained by any kind of profession of faith, as long as a man’s morals are in line with the standard of justice and honesty. You must drive out from the people entrusted to your care this most deplorable error on a matter so obviously important and so completely clear. For, since the Apostle has warned that there is one God, one faith, one baptism, those who pretend that the way to [eternal] beatitude starts from any religion at all should be afraid and should seriously think over the fact that, according to the testimony of the Savior Himself, they are against Christ because they are not for Christ; and that they are miserably scattering because they are not gathering with Him; and that consequently, they are most certainly going to perish forever, unless they hold the Catholic faith and keep it whole and inviolate”.[18]
Pope Gregory XVI here is simply restating the essential truth contained in the 4th Century Athanasian Creed, thus demonstrating the continuity of Catholic truth throughout the ages. The Creed begins:
“Whosoever wishes to be saved must, first of all, hold the Catholic faith, which, unless a man shall have held it whole and inviolate, he will most certainly perish forever.”
It concludes:
“This is the Catholic faith, which unless a man shall have believed it faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved.”
Blessed Pope Pius IX specifically condemned religious indifferentism in his magnificent 1864 Syllabus of Errors:
• It is an error to believe, “ Every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true.”
• It is an error to believe, “Man may, in the observance of any religion whatever, find the way of eternal salvation, and arrive at eternal salvation.”
• It is an error to believe, “Protestantism is nothing more than another form of the same true Christian religion, in which form it is given to please God equally as in the Catholic Church.”[19]
The Second Vatican Council’s ecumenical orientation is thus a departure from consistent papal condemnations of religious indifferentism. The practice of Conciliar ecumenism manifest by today’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, is religious indifferentism in action. Public ecumenical ceremonies with false religions, ennobled by celebrating these events at the major Roman Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, sends the message that any religion is good enough for salvation. It broadcasts to the world the religious indifferentism censured by the consistent magisterial teaching of the popes of all time.
As Catholics we are bound, as Vatican I infallibly taught, to hold to the truths of Faith taught throughout the centuries “in the same meaning and in the same explanation” as the Church always held.[20] Not even a Pope can change these teachings.[21]
Further, any priest ordained prior to 1967 had sworn a solemn Oath against Modernism[22] in which he promised to always hold and teach the Catholic Faith “in the same meaning and in the same explanation” as the Church taught consistently throughout the ages.[23]
The truth that there is no salvation outside the Church;[24] the fact that true union can only come about by the return of dissidents to the one Catholic Church; and the truth of the condemnations of religious indifferentism, are all part of that great body of Catholic doctrine we are bound to believe as the Church has always held. A Catholic who does not do so is guilty – in the objective order — of a grave sin against Faith.
A priest who solemnly swore the Oath Against Modernism is under even greater obligation. The eminent American theologian Msgr. Joseph Clifford Fenton warned that a man who takes the Oath Against Modernism, and then breaks that Oath, “would mark himself as a sinner against the Catholic Faith and a common perjurer”.[25]
